Quality: I really had to work to figure out what the deal was with this (or these) Calcite Pendant Bead. These Calcite Pendant Beads are a very soft stone, so to get a super high shiny polish didn’t make sense – plus these beads have a deep (but subtle) shimmer to them. So I asked a rock specialist about these beads and she had a lot to say!

She said that these are actually truly calcite, but that calcite isn’t hard enough to make that beautiful shiny polish, she said that they now will treat calcite with an acid finish which causes a reaction that creates a hardened glossy polish on the stone. She also said that the shimmer in the stone is likely to be from dyeing the stone & then the dye being trapped inside the stone under the acid finish to give it the beautiful shimmer. She said it’s a nice treatment – really uses science to improve the natural beauty of the stone!
